Georgia Federation of Democratic Women, Call to Action in Support of DACA

“Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a kind of administrative relief from deportation. The purpose of DACA is to protect eligible immigrant youth who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA gives young undocumented immigrants: 1) protection from deportation, and 2) a work permit. The program expires after two years, subject to renewal.

Donald Trump has rescinded DACA. Tell Republicans in Congress they must act now to protect DREAMers:

Ending DACA is the most outrageous, cruel act of Donald Trump’s presidency.

For nearly 800,000 young immigrants, DACA gives them the peace of mind to live, go to school, and work in the only country they have called home. Georgia ranks in the top ten states hit the hardest by Trump’s shortsighted move. With 23,405 DACA recipients, Georgia stands to lose $994,182,808 in state GDP annually.

Threatening the livelihoods of DREAMers isn’t just a political issue — it’s a moral one. DREAMers were brought here as children, whether to escape danger in other countries or in search of the American dream, and have lived in the United States for the majority of their lives.”

Strategy and tactics for defending and supporting DACA  Here.

  1. Dottie Foster gave a DACA update and spoke about her efforts with the Latino community in Habersham, White, and surrounding counties at our meeting in Clarksville. Thanks to all who can call in on this issue .
