Terrific organization. Terrific program. November 12 Sunday

Get to know Ninth DDWN member Anne Heikkila and a great North Georgia organization.

Great Old Broads for Wilderness is a decades old organization that began out west and my friend Anne Heikkila is the founding member of this chapter east of the Mississippi. Greening Georgia has built a coalition with the Great Old Broads for Wilderness as well as the Dogwood Alliance with whom Vicki Weeks is a key member. Vicki Weeks is also a Vice Chair of Greening Georgia and a DPG State Committee Member.

The Great Old Broads for Wilderness would like YOU to join us for our monthly chapter meeting on Sunday November 12th. This month we are pleased to announce that Vicki Weeks, the Georgia coordinator for the Dogwood Alliance, will be joining us to present the latest updates to the Dogwood Alliance’s campaign “Our Forest Aren’t Fuel”. Biomass energy has emerged a major threat to our Southern forests, resulting in forest degradation, increased noise and dust pollution, impacts on clean drinking water and quality of life. Come learn about this “dirty energy” threat and what we can do to protect our precious forests!

Come join us for social time at 2:00, and Vicki’s presentation will begin at 2:30. Please RSVP to Anne Heikkila at 770-378-3151 or email at annelh@outlook.com. The meeting will be held at Anne’s cabin in Morganton, GA. Exact address and directions will be given when you RSVP.

In addition to our guest speaker, Anne Heikkila will also share the details of her experience of participating in the Washington DC National Broadwalk. The last week of October, the Broads came out of the wilderness to don lobbying suits, trading hiking boots for walking shoes, for an urban Washington D.C. Broadwalk adventure. Anne will share what she learned about effective lobbying techniques and putting them into action.
